"What's Missing"

[ Back to Article Titles Page ]  [ Back to Home Page ]

"Jesus loves me this I know.  For the Bible tells me so.  Little ones to Him belong.  They are weak, but He is strong."  These are the words of a little children's song which I believe has the answer to not only the question asked in the title of this little article, but also to every problem we have ever faced or will ever face.  Some while back as I watched the funeral of little Michael and Alex Smith who I'm sure everyone remembers as the two little boys who were killed so viciously and their mother has reportedly confessed to their murders, I was touched so very much by not only the sadness of these tragic deaths, but by the many things I noticed during their funeral.  The funeral was held at the church where their parents were members and the crowd was so massive that the church could not hold it.  There were probably as many or more people outside as inside the church.  They had loud speakers so that the ones outside could hear the goings on inside.  What I saw outside that church that day was the vast emotions written on the faces of the people who were gathered out there.  As was to be expected, the expression of hurt and sympathy was written on many of the faces.  There indeed were many tears shed that day.  But one thing that was unmistakable on many of the faces was the expression of anger and hate.  It was truly amazing that when the loud speakers started to play the little children's song, "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.", every eye outside that church became flooded with tears.  All those looks of anger and hate suddenly disappeared.  Now friends, this doesn't mean that all those who had anger and hate on their faces got saved at that moment, but it does mean that the power of God was made manifest before them and it is my hope and prayer that the Lord has since used that message to lead some of them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

I realize that the previous paragraph was quite long, but it was necessary to make it that long and I even feel that I should have made it longer.  I don't know who all may read this little article, but those of you who read my articles regularly may tend to think that I am hung up on the subject of love.  That may be true and if it is, I pray that I can stay hung up on it.  I cannot think of a greater thing to get hung up on.

I titled this little article "What's Missing", and I have already indicated that I believe that the answer to that question is "Love", but please let me make it very clear that I in no way believe that there is no love in the world today.  There is indeed very much love in the world today, because every man, woman, boy, and girl who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal saviour has the love of Christ living inside them.  What I am saying is that we all too often fail to project that love to not only the poor lost souls in this world who know nothing of this great love, but also to our brethren who become overwhelmed by the pressures of this world, and have lost sight of that love.  You will notice that I said we have failed to do this.  There are two very distinct reasons for this.  The first reason is because I am guilty of this failure too.  The second reason which is even more important is because we as God's children are one.  We are the body and bride of Christ and Christ has only one body and He has only one bride.  It is true that we each are individual members, but we are all members of one body.  That means that when one member is guilty, the whole body is guilty.

As I said before, though we as His children have the love of Christ, that love is still missing in the world and in the church today.  We, as His children have a commandment to show this love to all.  Jesus said, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."  John 13:34-35.

I don't care what problem you can come up with, the answer to all of them is love and that love can only be found  in Jesus Christ.  Is there division in our churches today?  You better believe it.  What's missing?  How many broken hearts are there in the world today?  Hearts are broken and breaking every day.  What's missing?  Is the church exempt from broken hearts?  Many of God's children suffer from broken hearts.  What's missing?  Do friendships ever suffer?  A lot of friendships are strained and even broken leading to all manner of tragedies.  What's missing?  Is there heartache a plenty?  What's missing?  Do people get their feelings hurt?  Feelings are being hurt in the best of churches and even more so in the world.  What's missing?  Is there fear among the people of the world?  It is a very uncertain life in which we live and people who have any mind about them fear what will befall them.  What's missing?  I could go on and on with these questions and answers until I had thoroughly bored you to death and I hope I haven't already, but the point I am trying to make here is that the answer to all these questions and all these problems and difficulties is one.  Love!  I heard another little children's song just last week that I believe has more doctrine in it than a multitude of sermons based upon convictions of men.  I would like to share this little song with you.  See if you can find a problem or difficulty that you or anyone you know has or has had.

"Love is the Medicine"

Love is the medicine, you can be sure.

A dose of love is the medicine, that brings the cure.

If your heart condition, shows that you love division,

Jesus is the doctor and His love is the prescription.

Love is the medicine for broken hearts,

For wounded feelings,

For every friendship that needs healing.

Love is the medicine, when your heart is sick.

A dose of love is the medicine, that does the trick.

Love is the medicine, you can be sure.

A dose of love is the medicine, that brings the cure.

If your heart condition, shows that you love division,

Jesus is the doctor and His love is the prescription.

Love is the medicine for every hurt,

For every tear,

For every heartache,

For every fear.

Love is the medicine you can be sure.

A dose of love is the medicine that brings the cure.

That's Right!

Friends, that is right.  That is so right and just like the little children's song, "Jesus love me" dispelled the looks of anger and hatred on the faces of all those people outside that church at the funeral of Michael and Alex Smith, that same love is the medicine that brings the cure to everything and to all.  Do you know that love?  If you don't, please receive it by confessing to God that you are a lost sinner and
