“What a Job"

[ Back to Article Titles Page ]  [ Back to Home Page ]

The most creative job in the whole wide world involves taste, fashion, decorating, education, transportation, recreation, psychology, chemistry, biology, cuisine, designing, literature, lecturing, medicine, handicraft, art, horticulture, economics, government, community relations, pediatrics, geriatrics, entertainment, maintenance, purchasing, direct mail, law, accounting, energy management, and real old time religion.  This job belongs to a real Mother.  God bless you all.

The above illustration was taken by permission from the "Your Good Neighbor" magazine, produced by the Radio Bible Hour ministry.  There truly is no other job on this earth that requires the stamina, the endurance, the patience, the wisdom, the poise, the ingenuity, the grace, and the purest of love that only a real Mother possesses.  It's no wonder that when Dad's who have done all they can to see to it that their sons made it in sports, are watching their sons on television playing some sport and the camera comes to that child, you see him say "Hi Mom".  Sure, Fathers have a big responsibility when their children are concerned, but nothing on this earth can replace or measure up to those of a Mother.

You may be saying, "This is not Mother's Day, why is this article written about Mothers?".  Well, according to the calendar, it's not recognized as Mother's Day, but why not?  True, the calendar says it's only February, but why can't every day be a day in which we pay honor to those wonderful women the Lord has given us?  Any man who may be reading this might think that if we honored our wives and the Mother of our children every day it wouldn't mean so much to them.  I must beg to differ with that as I believe it would make each day and indeed Mother's Day more special.

Really, this little article's intent is not confined to just Mothers, as it is meant to honor all the women in our lives.  It is so very true that Mothers have a job not to be envied by anyone, and yet at the root of every Mother sits a woman who God created for that special task.  So this little article is for all the women whether they be Mothers, future or potential Mothers.

Now, the Lord has spoken one word to me for the last three days and that word is support.  With the above description of a Mother, is it any wonder that just about every article of women's apparel comes with the word support attached to it?  It is so sad to realize that with all that the women in our lives doing so much for us and not asking anything in return, (well, not much), we men are the ones who require so much support.  The main reason for this is mostly due to the fact that we have lost our backbone.  God didn't make a woman out of Adam's backbone, He used a rib, and yet we so often give the appearance that the woman has our backbone.  I am as guilty as anyone and that is the reason for this little article.

Today is February the seventh and in just seven more days it will be Valentine's Day.  That is a very special day to me as it is on that day that the Lord gave me the most special woman in my life.  My dear sweet wife, Ruth took on the awesome task of being my wife on February the 14th of 1986.  A man could not even dream of having a more wonderful wife.  To my wife Ruth D I want to thank you for being everything to me.  The Ruth in the Bible has nothing on you.   Thank you for being Ephesians 5:22-24 to perfection.  Thank you for being the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31:10-31.  And after all that, I beg your forgiveness for my failures as a husband and I ask for your prayers that the Lord will help me to support you as I should.

That same February the 14th in 1986, as an added bonus the Lord gave me one of the sweetest Mother-in-laws a man could ever hope for.  I know I broke her heart when I married her only daughter and yet she only showed me love and kindness.  To my dear sweet Mother-in-law, I want to thank you for all that you have meant to me these past 9 short years and for putting up with all the articles I have smothered you with and for all those good Sunday dinners even though all of them weren't on Sunday and for the example you have set before me in helping me to grow in my walk with the Lord.  More than all these, I thank you for all the prayers you prayed for me when you knew I was lost.  I beg also your forgiveness for not being the son-in-law I should be and I also ask for your continued prayers that I will be able to do better.

Then on July the 20th in 1987, the Lord again blessed me with the most precious daughter anyone could imagine.  To my little Kimmer, I want to thank you for your sweetness and your kind and giving heart and for helping me to find and remember things all the time.  You have truly been such a blessing to me as you are to all those you are around.  Thank you for all those "Daddy's homes" that I so often heard you yell as I would return from work.  You will never know how those two little words just thrilled my heart after so many long hard days at work.  Forgive me for my failures to you as a Daddy and please pray for me that the Lord will help me be the Daddy you deserve.

Then, praise the Lord, on Friday the 13th of November in 1992 the Lord when He saved me gave me a host of wonderful sisters many of whom I hope and pray will be reading this little article.  Most of you, I haven't even met yet, but many of you I have and it is to all of you, but mostly to the ones I know that this little segment is addressed.  As with all the above mentioned special women the Lord has given me, each and every sister in Christ that I have, I am so very thankful for and I am just as un-deserving of any of you as I am of these other three.  To each of you as well, I would like to express the love that the Lord has placed in my heart for you, but also I want to ask your forgiveness for my failures in supporting each of you as I should.  So many times we are sitting or standing right next to someone who is having problems and we don't even realize it and some times all that would be needed to help that problem would be a kind word or a smile from someone who they knew were sincere and who loved them.  I don't know any problems anyone might be facing, but I do know that we all have them as Job said, "Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward".  Job 5:7.  This is so true and sometimes I believe we are burning pine as the sparks really fly.  Please pray for me that I can be more attentive to the needs of all my new family.

 Happy

Valentines Day
