"Treasures Of The Heart"

[ Back to Article Titles Page ]  [ Back to Home Page ]

I had just finished the latest article the Lord gave me entitled, "Praise Him For What We Don't Have" when I began to read the newspaper in what they call the Religion section.  Well, for the most part, this section of the paper is filled with anything but true religion.  This morning as I opened the paper to that section, the very first article to catch my eye was one with the headline,Poor more likely to count blessings".  This article was so kin to the article I had just written that I was tempted to go back and add to my previous article, but the Lord put it on my heart to write a new article instead.  I had to do some heavy duty praying that He would lead me in the writing of this article, because this is a very touchy subject to many people and though I have no intentions of compromising what God says about this subject, it is the intention of this article to bless those who will read it.

It is a known fact that more men have fallen in prosperity than in poverty and many of these men have been true Christians, but I am convinced that many of the people this article in the newspaper speaks of are lost.  The first paragraph said, "Jesus said no one can serve the dual masters of God and money, but he has not convinced the majority of well-off Americans".  Well, I can tell you for a fact that this majority of well-off Americans they speak of is definately lost.  There is absolutely no doubt about it.  First of all, by the statement that Jesus has not convinced them of this fact plainly states that they don't believe the Word of God.  No more evidence is needed, because if they don't believe His Word, which is Jesus Christ, they haven't believed on Him as their personal Saviour and that means they are lost.

Someone named Sylvia Ronsvalle of the Champaign, Ill. based research organization "Empty Tomb Inc." did a national survey on faith and finances.  The results of this survey reportedly showed that, nearly two-thirds of lower income Americans agreed with Jesus' admonition, but less than half of the respondents earning more than $50,000 agreed.  Now, this doesn't mean that all of those two-thirds who agreed with what the Bible says about the love of money being the root of all evil, are saved, (I hope they are), but it does mean beyond a shadow of a doubt that every one of those who don't agree are not.

Many people are so often willing and even often eager to give their opinion of what they believe the Word of God to say and so many times they either misquote His Word or they take it out of context leading to many different views on what it actually says.  Some people say that His Word says that money is the root of all evil and that is not at all what it says.  The Bible says, "The love of money is the root of all evil" and that is what it means, no more and no less.  If it said that money was the root of all evil, it would imply that anyone that God blessed with money would surely be lost.  This is not the case as we all need money to live.  People who have money are indeed blessed.  It's the people who money has who are the ones in trouble.  Then there are those who say that the Bible says, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God" and they will say if you are rich you are surely lost.  Well, these people have never read about Job and all the wealth he had and they have never read about king Solomon and how the Lord so richly blessed him.  It's a known fact that we as Christians are tempted by the devil in every way and money is no exception.  As I said in my earlier article, I am truly blessed and I am so very thankful for it.  I truly am a rich man even though I don't have a lot of money.  I thank God that my children have never had to go to bed hungry, but I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to be rich monetarily as I don't need the temptation that would surely come with it.  If the Lord ever does decide to bless me with monetary riches, I can only pray that with it He will also grant me the grace to use it for His glory.

The whole point of all this is that, whatever God blesses us with, let us praise Him for it and look to no one but Him for guidance as to how He would have us to use it, for what His Word says is true and He says, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also".  Matthew 6:19-21.  And with these wonderful words of wisdom straight from God's own Word, let us all joy in what He chooses to give us and always realize what someone once said that, "Man is never prepared to live until he is prepared o die".
