"We're All Temporary"

Now, I believe that we should all plan for the future or we may be caught not being prepared for what lies ahead.  The company I work for has been in business a long time and they pride themselves as being a secure company where there are no layoffs.  In the past few years with the economy  being so unstable, they along with many other companies have turned to what is known as "temporary services" to get employees.  The people where I work have shortened the name of those new workers from "temporary services employees" to just "temporaries".  The very first time I heard that term used, I told them we are all temporary.  I wasn't just talking about our state of employment, though that too is not permanent.  Now, just in this past year, my company has committed seventy-two million dollars into what they call recapitalization.  Well, just the word recapitalization could be a scary thought.  What it boils down to is that this company which has as I said been in business a long time, is planning for the future.

Each day as I work among my fellow workers I get quite a mix of opinions of this new recapitalization project.  These opinions range anywhere from fear to just a wait and see attitude.  Personally, I am truly very excited about this new recapitalization, for though I see it as a challenging time, I see it as an opportunity to secure the future of the industry in which I work.  The men and women who are in charge of this new endeavor are for the most part brilliant in business decisions and that is a definite plus, but what it really boils down to is that "we are all temporary".  If you have ever read any of my little articles, you will notice that in my letterhead are the words "In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths".  Well, this statement comes from what is known to be the wisest man to ever live, other than the Lord Himself.  It comes from the book of Proverbs, chapter three and verse six.  The writer of this book was king Solomon.  I personally believe this little statement to be the key to guaranteed success in whatever we face, whether it be business or financial or relationships or any other part of our life.  The verse just before this one (verse five), is equally important as it says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding".  If the people in charge of this new recapitalization will grasp these two verses of scripture and use them in their decision making, there can be nothing but success.  There is a song that is sung in my church quite often which says, "I don't know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future".  As I said before, I believe we should plan for the future and I really believe that, but if we try to plan anything on our own we will surely fail.  We must trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding, for He is the one who holds the future.  We must acknowledge Him in all our ways, not just when it seems convenient to us.  And He shall, not might, direct our paths.  And we must never forget that "We are all temporary".

The Lord led me to write this little article as I was praying for those survivors of the devastating earthquake in Japan.  Now many of those people and probably most of them were planning for the future when the earth beneath them began to tremble.  All of a sudden all their plans didn't matter too much anymore.  I don't claim to know why the Lord chose to shake the earth under Japan and it is really not for me to understand.  What I do know is that He is the one who holds their future and He is the one who holds my future.  Now, the saddest part about that earthquake over there is the fact that most if not all those who perished in those awful moments didn't even believe there is a God.  Now, all we who believe that there is a God know for a certain that all those who perished without Him are in hell right now and their future will never change again.  It is truly sad to know that many right here in America either don't believe there is a God or they believe that He is, but they have forgotten Him.  I noticed in the newspaper this morning that the tragedy in Japan has moved all the way back to page six, while O.J. Simpson is still on the front page.  Well, as popular as Mr. Simpson is, if he doesn't trust in the Lord with all his heart, he can do all the planning for the future he wants and it won't really matter what the outcome of that trial is.  And no matter how many newspapers and television revenues that trial sells, if the people who prosper from this man's plight don't trust in the Lord with all their hearts, their future as well will be the same as those they so quickly moved to the back burner who died without Christ in Japan.  Let us all plan for the future with excitement and great expectations, but let us not leave God out of those plans, for He indeed is the one who holds our future.  In all our ways (not just the ones that seem convenient), let us acknowledge Him and He shall (not might), direct our paths.  I have great plans for my future and I am so thankful that He has even better plans for my future.  If my plans should not work out as I expect, I know His will.  To all those who will read this little article, my most humble prayer is that this little article will serve as a real blessing to your own hearts and that you too will see a brighter future ahead as you go forth planning that future with Christ at the forefront.
