“Money Talks"

The old saying, "Money Talks" has been around for many years and though many people seem to gain great power and prestige from monetary riches, it is a known fact that more men and women of God have fallen in prosperity than in poverty.  To tell you the truth, if my money ever said anything, it was goodbye.  Although money really doesn't talk, what men do with the wealth God gives them more times than not speaks loud and clear.

The Word of God says, "Delight thyself also in the Lord; trust also in Him and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  Psalms 37:4.  This is a truth straight from the Word of God and yet so many people confuse the desires of the heart with the lusts of the flesh.  When this happens is when what they do with what God gives them begins to speak loudly.  Everything God ever does is for one ultimate purpose and that purpose is to bring glory to Him where all glory and honor and praise belongs.  Now, if I were to go to the Lord and ask Him to give me a nice boat because I really did desire that boat, He would know my true desire for that boat and if I were going to use that boat to my glorification, I might as well go and ask the pope to give me a boat.  So many times men ask for things such as a boat and they really do believe that what they are asking for is a desire of their heart.  Then God will grant their requests for His own reasons, even though He knows full well they are not going to use that gift to bring glory to Him.  Then they will take that boat on the Lord's day and drive on past the church to some lake and attempt to glorify themselves with it.  It is in cases such as this that the use of their gifts become so very audible.  What they are saying is that that person is really in love with themselves and with pleasure.  One might tend to ask why then if God knows their heart, would He grant their request.  There could be many reasons, but one is to expose the true person.  Even though that person was trying to glorify himself, God would still get the glory in that He exposed them for what they really were.

Then there are those who would ask for certain things and really mean business with God and seek to glorify Him with it and the devil comes into the picture and tempts them with it.  You could probably ask some television preachers about this.  This is one example of those who have fallen in prosperity.  Every time one of God's people receives a blessing and it starts to glorify God, the devil starts being threatened an he will do all that he can to tempt that person into misusing that blessing.  The fact of the matter is that with every gift that we receive comes responsibility.  As God's children, we automatically have the responsibility to be good stewards of everything that He so graciously gives us.

First of all, we can rest assured that God doesn't lie and that He will indeed give us the desires of our heart.  I have already quoted the scripture found in Psalms 37:4.  His Word also says, "Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."  Mark 11:24.  Those are the words of Jesus.  Sometimes we just need direction and He will give us that as well.  A very good example of this is found in John, chapter 21, verses 6-11.

Now that we know that all things are to glorify God and that He will give us the desires of our heart and we also know that the devil is going to tempt us with everything that brings glory to God, we should truly be careful what we pray for and how we use it.  There is a couple of verses of scripture found in Proverbs that I have found to be a very good prayer.  It says, "Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny Thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."  Proverbs 30:8-9.  I don't know about you, but I have enough temptation to deal with already without asking for more, so for me, I would rather God just feed me the way He sees fit so that it all will prove to bring glory to Him.  He knows all our needs and He knows just exactly how to meet those needs in a way that will bring all the glory and honor and praise to it's rightful place.
