"Heaven Ain't Like Dixie"

Just this morning my wife came into my study and told me of a cap she had seen one of my brothers wearing yesterday.  This cap she spoke of had the words, "If Heaven ain't like dixie I don't want to go" on it.  This really broke my heart, because the sad fact is that unless the Lord in His mercy doesn't save him, he won't be going to heaven.  I pray that the Lord will use me to witness to him and help him to see the real truth about what it is that awaits him if he continues to reject the offer of salvation that God in His infinite mercy has made to all men.  Whether or not the Lord chooses to use me, I hope He will use someone or something to help him.  I love my brother and I don't want to see him go to hell.

The words upon that cap, I've seen before and they come from a song that was sung by a woman named Tanya Tucker.  There have been many minds and hearts corrupted by not only this song, but many like it.  People tend to think that just because a song is not classified as hard rock, there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with it.  Now, that cap is not going to send my brother and the many others who wear such things to hell.  He was on his way to hell long before he ever saw that cap.  The thing that will send him to hell is his rejection of Jesus Christ.  That cap is only evidence of the heart that he has.

It has been said that this world in which we live is all the heaven that a lost person will ever see and that it is all the hell that a child of God will ever experience.  Well, to a point, one could look at it that way.  As you have noticed, I have titled this little article, "Heaven Ain't Like Dixie".  I hate to burst these people's bubble in their imagination of what heaven should be like, but heaven will be absolutely nothing like dixie.  Dixie is a name given to the southern part of the United States.  The south as with the whole United States is full of hate, only the south is more famous for it.  I don't claim to know just exactly what heaven will be like, because it is beyond my little imagination to comprehend.  I do know for a fact though that there will be absolutely no hatred in heaven.  The south as with the whole United States is full of murder.  There will be no murder in heaven.  The south as with the rest of the United States is full of thieves, liars, adulterers, lust, deceit, covetousness, and I could go on and on, but there will be absolutely none of this in heaven.  No, heaven will be nothing like dixie, nor any other part of this world.  Heaven will be a place where there will be no tears.  Heaven will be a place where there will be no suffering.  Heaven will be a place where there is no dieing.  Again, I could go on and on, but I could never even touch on the wonderful bliss of what heaven will be like.  On the cross, Jesus called it paradise.  Men have named things and places down here paradise, but I am so afraid that those who do that will be in for the most horrible surprise that could be imagined.

No, heaven is not at all like dixie, but the saddest part for those who wish it were is that there is the alternative.  That alternative is hell and the lake of fire.  Is hell like dixie?  No friends, I'm afraid hell is absolutely nothing like dixie.  It is true that many of those who have helped make dixie what it is will be there, but dixie and indeed this whole world could be considered a paradise when compared to hell.  Man in all his imagination in making all those horror movies has never even touched on the never ending horrors of hell.  It is appointed man once to die and then the judgment.  Friends, death does not end it all.  There is an eternity that awaits each and every one of us after this life is over and there is but two choices as to where that eternity will be spent.  There is heaven where all will be more perfect than we have ever seen or imagined.  The other alternative is hell where there will be eternal torment in the lake of fire. 

Where, my dear friend will you spend eternity?  Please consider this right now while there is yet time to do so.  Heaven awaits all those who will but accept this free gift of salvation by trusting in the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross.  All who reject Him will be tormented forever in the lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels.  If you have never experienced that life changing experience of asking God to forgive you of all your sins, I beg you to do so right this minute.  Just get down on your knees right now and say God, be merciful to me a sinner, I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that He arose again and ascended up to heaven giving me the victory over death and hell.  Then ask Jesus to come into your heart and life and if you really mean it, He will.  God bless you.

I am so thrilled to report that since the first writing of this little article, that Lord has so graciously opened the door for me to witness to my brother who was spoken of in this article and that God in His grace and mercy has saved my brother and his dear wife. Now, my brother no longer displays a desire either on his cap or in his heart for heaven to be like Dixie.
