"ians"

[ Back to Article Titles Page ]  [ Back to Home Page ]

I realize that the title of this little article doesn't make much sense, but I hope and pray that the article will not only make sense, but also will serve as a blessing to all those who read it.  The Lord put it on my heart to write it just this morning as we are about to exchange gifts among the family members in celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

As I said before, the title of this little article doesn't make much sense.  Well, the word "ian" is really in the dictionary.  I looked it up.  It's in there but it has no meaning.  The dictionary only tells you to "see an", which even makes less sense.  I looked up the word "an" and part of it's definition is, "one that belongs to".  It gives some examples such as, <American>, <Bostonian>, and <Crustacian>.  The other part of the definition is, "Characteristic of: resembling".

As you can see, the word "ian" all by it's self doesn't mean very much.  Well, the word that led me to write this little article has even less meaning.  That word is what I call a "Not word".  Not words don't mean anything.  In fact, the word "mas" is not even in the dictionary.

As we have approached this time when we are celebrating the birth of our Lord, I have paid special attention to all the hoopla, (that's probably a "Not word" too), over Santa Clause and giving and getting gifts.  There has been very little said about the Saviour who the celebration is all about.

Since Christ is the subject here, I believe it is plain to see that if I don't have Christ in my heart, I cannot belong to Him, nor can I have the characteristics of Him, nor can I resemble Him.  That would only leave me an "ian", which means very little at all.  Therefore, if I didn't have Christ in my heart and I were just an "ian", the only thing I could possibly celebrate would be "mas", which would mean nothing at all.

Now words, (any words), without deeds, which are statements made from the heart, mean absolutely nothing.  They are only words and they all might as well be "Not words".  Right now today, there are many "ians" preparing to celebrate "mas" and it will mean absolutely Nothing.  This is truly a sad picture to behold.

On the contrary, true Christmas, for the true Christian, should be a true celebration filled with the true joy of belonging to and resembling Christ who is the root word of all that we are.  No matter what our surroundings or our circumstances, we are Christians and we have real reason to celebrate Christmas.  May the Lord let us who have Christ in us resemble Him that the world around us who are "ians" celebrating "mas" may see that Christ is the only answer to all their problems.
