"In those days
was Hezekiah sick unto death...". Isaiah 38:1. These are the words found in
God's Word concerning a man named Hezekiah who found himself so sick that he was
sure to die. In our day, men call it a time when there is no hope. Many men who
claim to know God seem so often to forget or lose sight of just who God is and
His great power. Many men who claim to know God also seem to forget or lose
sight of just who is in charge of everything that happens, as they so often tend
to attribute such situations to something called "luck". It is indeed so sad
that people say they really believe in God and yet they either go around
worrying all the time about what will befall them today or tomorrow, or they
just go around living like they really don't believe God's Word is the inspired,
infallible Word of God. In saying this I am speaking of those who say they are
Christians and yet they have to make decisions as to whether they will attend
the house of God.
Now, Hezekiah was surely a very sick man as God's Word makes it so very clear,
but friends, this thing didn't just happen to Hezekiah because of some thing
called "luck" nor because God turned His back for a moment and it happened
without His knowledge. In that very same verse, God's Words and instruction came
to Hezekiah through the prophet Isaiah. "And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz
came unto him, and said, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou
shalt die, and not live." Isaiah 38:1. Friends, whatever happened to Hezekiah
and whatever happens to me and whatever happens to you, has absolutely nothing
to do with "luck" and in no way happens without God allowing it to happen.
The same thing goes for this little article and the verse of scripture that I
have just used and the verses that I plan to use just a little later in this
article. The Lord has placed this article upon my heart just this morning as I
was praying for a man who I don't know. I didn't have to look up these verses of
scripture, for the Lord so graciously gave them to me with the thoughts
contained in this article. Friends, there is no way that I can ever be convinced
that "luck" or anything else had anything to do with this or with any of the
things that have been happening in my life and in the lives of those around me.
God is in charge of this and everything and He has a purpose for it all. It is
that purpose that I pray He will make known through this little article and that
hearts and lives will be blessed and His glory will be magnified.
A while back, I received a phone call with the person on the other end weeping
and telling of a tragedy people were saying there was no hope. Well, this
particular tragedy greatly affected me as well, but the Lord's grace and mercy
allowed me to have a certain peace that I cannot understand nor explain, but I
assured the person on the other end of the phone line that those who were saying
that there was no hope didn't know the God I know and there was indeed hope. I
began praying for a miracle as I have found myself having to do it seems a lot
lately. God gave me that miracle and as I saw the person later that day who I
had spoken to that morning, the deliverance of that miracle was already evident.
I reminded that person of the hope that is found in none other than the true and
living God and in the power of prayer. Now friends, that reminder was nothing I
could or would ever attempt to boast of, but to boast of the glory and the power
and the mercy of God. Again, that person told me of another miracle that was
needed, and again, I assured that person that the Lord was in charge. Again, I
went before God's throne of grace, asking for a miracle, and again, He so
graciously delivered.
Last night when I returned home from work, I had a prayer request laying on my
desk from the person who had already witnessed the two previous miracles and the
prayer request indeed would call for a miracle. Now, I don't know the man who
the prayer request was for, but I have asked the Lord for the real burden
necessary for a ministry of intercession and He has more than adequately
delivered. I prayed with all my heart for the man in the request and as with the
others, I asked that if it could somehow be within His will. As with the others,
I cannot guarantee that the miracle requested is what the Lord wants, but I can
guarantee that He is in charge and in seeking His will, my prayer was heard and
will be answered. Another of the verses the Lord showed me this morning, also
concerning the situation Hezekiah found himself in was, "I have heard thy
prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years."
Found in the latter part of Isaiah 38:5. You see, Hezekiah had prayed for a
miracle of his own and the Lord in His infinite grace and mercy gave him that
miracle.
Now, the miracle the Lord gave Hezekiah and the miracles He has given me and all
the miracles He has ever performed or ever will perform are ultimately for one
purpose and one purpose only. That purpose is to glorify Him and His Kingdom. It
has been my prayer that all those who have witnessed these miracles will be made
to see beyond a shadow of a doubt, His majesty and those who have not trusted
Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour will see their need of Him in their heart
and life. And it is now also my prayer that all who will read this little
article will see for a surety that He is God and if they don't know Him, they
will be assured that He is still on the throne and in charge. And that those who
don't know Him will submit to His calling to salvation.
After Hezekiah had prayed and received his miracle, the Lord allowed him to
understand the reason he was allowed to live and he told of it in writing and I
will tell you of it in writing that we all may be assured of His purpose.
Hezekiah said, "Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love
to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my
sins behind thy back. For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate
thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the
living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall
make known thy truth. The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my
songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the
Lord." Isaiah 38:17-20. Friends, Hezekiah was saved as to his physical life and
more importantly, the Lord cast all his sins behind His back. If you are reading
this little article, it is a sure bet that you are alive and the Lord is the one
who has allowed that and if you have not trusted Jesus Christ as your personal
Saviour and had all your sins cast behind His back, please know that now is the
time, right now for He may not give you another chance. Ask Him to save you and
He will. If you have accepted that wonderful free gift of the Saviour, there is
but one reason you are alive right now and that is to praise Him and make known
His truth. Have you told someone about Jesus? Now, my friend, is the time while
He gives you breath. Sing my friend, His songs all the days of your life in the
house of the Lord. May God so richly bless you. Miracles do still happen!
