"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1. Think about that for a moment. I mean really think about that. The very first verse of scripture in the Bible and yet it is the most awesome thought known to man, if he would just really think about it. I recently had the wonderful opportunity of hearing a truly great sermon on the first four words of this awesome verse of scripture. And even more recently, the Lord so graciously gave me this little article using this same verse. It is my earnest prayer that the Lord will use this little article to not only enlighten any who may have doubts as to who they are or their importance in God's perfect plan, but that He will also use it as a very real and lasting blessing to all who will read it.
Have you thought about that verse of scripture yet? Well, don't feel bad if you cannot fully grasp it's awesomeness. I don't believe that it can ever really be fully grasped. Not in this life anyway. God could not have chosen a more powerful statement of fact to begin His love letter to His creation than this. The first four words are indeed beyond imagination, which in itself is proof that man could not have made it all up. In the beginning God. Whose or what's beginning is this speaking of?
Well it's surely not God's beginning, because it says, "In the beginning God...", which means that God was already there. No, God had no beginning and He has no end. God always was and is and God always will be. So whose or what's beginning was it? The rest of the verse answers that question. It was the beginning of the heaven and the earth. You will notice that God's Word does not say, the heavens. It only says the heaven and the earth. No, God already had a home and He only had to create a home or dwelling place for the rest of His creation.
When is the last time you created something? If you will be honest with yourself, you will have to answer that question with the word "never". Well, when is the last time you witnessed something evolving? Again, if you will be honest with yourself, you will have to answer that question with the word "never". Just yesterday, I was talking with a dear friend who told of a fish symbol she had seen on the back of a car which has feet sticking out of the bottom of it. Now, this fish symbol with it's feet had a name written inside it that spelled out the name, Darwin. This Darwin fellow is credited with the thought that everything that is, was not created, but evolved. Well, that in itself is ridiculous, because for something to evolve, it would have to evolve from something and that something would have to have an origin.
You will notice that I said, this darwin fellow was credited with the thought that everything that is evolved. I said that he was credited with the thought, because even that thought was not his. He got that thought from Satan who is the father of all lies. Yes, Satan used this poor man in his quest to discredit his Creator and to damn as many others as he could to his future home in the lake of fire which is hell. Even this Darwin fellow, who was Charles Robert Darwin, did not evolve, even though he did exhibit the intelligence of an ape. No, back in 1809, God created a series of seeds that combined together formed a human being which grew and grew and are now in eternal torment in hell. What went wrong? Did God create a piece of junk? No, God makes no mistakes. It was Charles Robert Darwin who made the mistakes. He made plenty of mistakes, but the one that sent his soul crashing into hell was his denial of God and His Word.
God was in charge in the beginning of His creation of the heaven and the earth and He is just as in charge today. This past Saturday, I was so fortunate to be at a yard sale that my dear wife was having in Spartanburg. Now, don't get me wrong and think that I like yard sales, because I don't. I don't like going to yard sales and I certainly don't like having them. This yard sale was different though, because it was at this yard sale that the Lord willed for me to be. I had gone there to help my wife and daughter set it up and I had left, telling my wife that I was going to some stores and that I would be back by twelve o'clock when she had planned to close it up. Well, I went to the store that I knew would be open first and found it to be almost an hour before time for it to open. I then decided to go home and wait until time to go back to Spartanburg to help my wife gather things up. While at home, I was led to call my wife on her car phone. I didn't know that she had been trying to reach me on my car phone, but when I called she asked me if I could come there and take our daughter to the bathroom at a nearby store. I went back there and took our daughter to use the store's bathroom, so when we returned, I just stayed there at the yard sale.
At the time, I didn't know why, but before the yard sale was over, the Lord so graciously showed me why. Just before the end of the yard sale, a lady walked up and picked up a Bible we had on the table with a "Free" sign in front of it. When she picked up the Bible, I asked her if she needed a Bible and told her to take it, that it was free. I then handed her a tract that we had on the same table and told her that I would like for her to have it as well. Only moments later, the Lord opened the door for me to witness to that dear lady and then to present the Gospel of Christ to her. God saved that precious lady and that in itself made my stay at the yard sale worth it all.
But that wasn't all the Lord had in store for me by having me there. While there, a man came up and began talking. This man really liked talking. I myself am not a very good talker, but I do consider myself a good listener. And I believe that can be backed up by many who have mentioned things to me and later found something they had said to me being used in one of these little articles the Lord gives me.
Such was the case with this man. The Lord wanted me to hear what this man said, because He impressed part of this man's conversation upon my heart for this little article. As I said, the man liked to talk and he talked about many things. One of the things he spoke of was how that the Lord had brought him through some pretty serious heart problems. Another thing this man talked about was that he had a tractor in his yard that he didn't use that much, but that he couldn't bring himself to sell, because he just liked having a tractor in his yard. The man had grown up on a farm and that tractor was all the farm he had left to hold on to. It was part of him. He went on to say that some people may think of him as strange, because he liked having that tractor in his yard.
Indeed, many people would probably think it strange for this man to keep a tractor he didn't use, but that is just the way people think sometimes. As I thought about that, the Lord allowed me to see how that all that He created is not the same. Different is not always good, but it is always important and as I said before, God truly is in charge of everything. I have to disagree with our former President, Abraham Lincoln who was quoted as saying that all men are created equal. It is so true that we all are equally important, but we definitely are not equal. Scientist say that there are no two snow flakes alike. Well, when I look at them, they all look alike to me, but I do believe that statement, because I know the God who creates those snow flakes. All those snow flakes most likely are different, but each design has a purpose and only God knows the purpose for that design.
It could have been to give those scientists something to do when they found themselves with an abundance of cash they couldn't figure out what to do with. Don't take that as fact though, because as I said, only God knows. My friend, just like those snow flakes, and just like the birds, and just like the trees, and the fish, and everything else that God created, they are all by God's design and He alone has a purpose in mind for each of them. Each of them. You and I too my friend, are created by God's design and for His purpose. And just like the snow flakes and the birds and everything else, though different, each one very important.
Different by God's design and for His purpose and in that aspect, the differences each of us are created with are good. Just for economical purposes, I would hate to think what it would be like if everybody was just like me. I love salmon stew, I mean I really love salmon stew. And I would hate to think what salmon and milk and cheese would cost if everybody loved salmon stew the way I do. And I like computers, but if everybody liked computers like I do, according to the law of supply and demand, the price would surely be far too high to get one.
But all differences are not so good and one may ask, if God created us all different and God is perfect, then how can all the differences not be good? There is a very good reason for that and the answer is the choices that we make as individuals as to what we do with those differences and how we use them. It was the freedom of choice that caused sin to enter into the world in the first place.
You see, when God created the first man, He created him in His own image and there was no sin in the world. Then when God created the first woman to be his help meet, she too was without sin. God gave them instructions as to what all they could and could not do. But He allowed them the freedom of choice as to whether they would obey Him. They chose not to obey Him and they sinned.
And are all these differences important, even the bad ones? Yes, so important that God gave His only begotten Son to die on a cross as payment for the sins of the whole world. My friend, I am different from you in many ways. And I am different from Charles Darwin in many ways, but there is one thing that we all have in common and that is that we are all sinners. You are a sinner and I am a sinner and Charles Darwin was a sinner.
God, who created all of us says that the wages or penalty for those sins is death. But God gave His Son who was and is sinless, to pay for our sins as He took your sins and mine and the sins of the whole world upon His shoulders and bled and died a most horrible death for us all. What was it that made Him do such a thing for a people as unworthy as we are? It was love! "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
My friend, God so loved Charles Darwin that He gave His only begotten son, that if he would have believed in Him, he would not perish, but would have had everlasting life. Charles Darwin chose not to believe in Him and he is in eternal torment in hell right now and has been ever since 1882. God loved me that much too and on Friday the 13th of November in 1992, I trusted Him as my personal Saviour and Lord and received Him into my heart and life.
But guess what, God loved you that much too and if you have not trusted Him as your Saviour and Lord, the choice is now yours. If you believe what I have just told you, all you have to do is to call upon Him and ask Him to forgive you of your sins and receive Him into your own heart and life. If you do that and mean it, His Word says you shall be saved.
It is my prayer that anyone who is now reading this little article is a child of God and a member of the body of Christ. There are some very important differences that we as His body have and each one, though different, are equally important. "For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another." Romans 12:4-5. Since the Lord saved me by His wonderful grace and mercy, He has so graciously given me all these articles. And He has allowed me to win a few souls to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. But even though He has so graciously done this for me, He knew that I could not do it, first of all without Him and His wonderful Holy Spirit and then without the help of many others.
He has truly blessed me with a wonderful help meet in my dear sweet wife. She is such a great help as she proof reads every one of these articles to find all my mistakes. And as she helps me to prepare the growth packets for those who trust Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. And as she goes with me to support me when I go somewhere to witness to someone. And as she encourages me when the devil gets me down. All this, and much, much more.
And then the Lord has truly blessed me with some very, very dear friends who also read my articles. And help me to get them out to others to read. These dear friends have given these articles out as far away that I know of as Virginia and Louisiana. These dear friends are also a great encouragement to my heart, not only in the writing of these little articles, but in my personal growth as well.
And then the Lord has so graciously used another dear friend who was one of the first people where I work who He allowed me to win to Jesus, as a very great help in my witnessing and in making contact with those I do not know. She too, has been such an encouragement as I have been so blessed in watching her to grow and to serve the Lord as well.
And then there is the man the Lord so graciously used to lead me to Jesus, who He has given me as a very dear friend as well. This man and his dear wife have been such an encouragement and an inspiration to me as well.
Each of these dear people are different and each of them are equally important, not only to the cause of Christ, but to my own heart and personal growth as well. Each of them do many things which are very important, but I have saved the best for last. You see, each of them, just like my wonderful Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, love me just the way I am. And they pray for me. I thank God for each of them and when I get to heaven, I want each of them to get the reward for what we are allowed to accomplish together as His body.
