"Armed And Extremely Dangerous"

[ Back to Article Titles Page ]  [ Back to Home Page ]

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  Romans 1:16.

"Armed and extremely dangerous".  This is the description often given of a person who is sought by the police who is believed to have a weapon and it is suspected that they intend to use it, but it could also be used to describe a child of God who has the Word of God and is not afraid to use it.  Now, some may say that a real Christian would never be considered dangerous, but though it is sadly so true that many Christians are so very harmless, I must disagree with that idea.  It is a fact that the devil is an enemy of God and if he is God's enemy, then he should be our enemy as well.  There are also those who say that they hate the devil too, but they never have to deal with him.  Well, to those I must say that if that were the case with me, I would sincerely consider examining where I stood with the Lord.  If a person is a child of God and is doing His will, that person is bound to have a run in with the devil.  It may not be a head on collision with the devil himself, but it will surely come through the devil working through someone.

What is a child of God to be armed with?  God's children have the most powerful weapon there ever was or ever will be and it is known as the Word of God.  His Word says, "For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."  Hebrews 4:12.  Friends, a person cannot get any more armed and dangerous than that.

Just this past week, the Lord allowed me to enter into an extremely volatile situation where tempers and harsh words were flying.  Now, the people involved in this situation had been at it for quite some time and things were only getting worse.  I saw where this situation was headed, so I separated the ones who were doing the most arguing by asking one of them to step outside with me.  After getting this person outside, I began to tell her what the Word of God had to say about the situation.  At first she tried to make excuses for the way she had been talking and acting, but I was finally able to convince her that God's way was the right way.  Now, this particular lady was a person of education, supposedly trained in the field of psychology and I was no match for her on my own, but the Word of God is more powerful than anyone.  Before very long, as I said, I was able to convince her of her error and then I got the main two who were arguing back together and began to try and settle the differences between the two, again letting God's Word do the work.  It wasn't long until the two were hugging each other and the conversation was one of peace and compassion.  In fact, before I left there the lady who I took outside first was trying to look up scripture in the Bible.

Friends, when I went into that room, I first saw people arguing, but it wasn't just people arguing.  The devil was in that room and he was working through those people.  Had I gone in that room using only my opinions and words things would have surely gotten worse.  Once I realized what I was facing, I knew that it was the Word of God that was needed.  Though I had love in my heart for the people involved and would never want to hurt any of them, the devil was the real enemy and I was armed and extremely dangerous to him.  The devil cannot stand against the Word of God and he is defeated from the beginning.

Some may say something like, "What if the person didn't believe the Word of God and how then would you defend what His Word says?"  I would defend the Word of God the same way I would defend a lion if I had one.  I would just turn it loose.  You see, God's Word, like the lion, needs no defending for it will defend itself.  The only thing we are required to do is to know what God's Word says and He will do the rest.  We should however, make sure that the Word we use is pertinent to the situation we are dealing with.  If, for instance, we were to be discussing how a man might be saved, we wouldn't use scripture pertaining to the building of the temple.  We would us scripture pertaining to salvation.  This is a real simple example, but some instances are not so simple and that is where we should seek the leadership of the Holy Spirit as to what would be best.  The Word of God contains instructions and answers for every situation anyone will ever be faced with.  The main thing is to study His Word so that we will be ready when the enemy is near.

Also, there are many Christians who know the enemy and they know how he operates in this world, but they would really rather not get involved.  Sometimes this is due to fear and sometimes it is due to just plain being lazy.  Many times people will pray that the Lord will help them avoid the devil so that they will not be faced with these battles.  Friends, these attitudes are the root of many of the problems of the world today and it is so sad to say, but it is resulting in the devil winning more and more souls into his kingdom, thereby condemning them to an eternity in the lake of fire.  We, as God's children should never become satisfied to just sit on the sidelines while there is a war going on.  We must be armed and extremely dangerous.  In the last few weeks, I have had some of my hardest battles with the devil since the Lord so graciously saved me and I have been so tempted to just give up, but I cannot and I will not and that is the reason I am writing this article.  God's Word never tells us that the Christian life will be easy, but it does tell us that it will be right.  A church house full of happy saints is a very poor testimony to a world who is dying and going to hell.  We must be out there on the firing line making a difference.  As I said before, I too have been tempted lately to just give up, but I pray that the Lord will help me to never ask Him to keep me from the enemy, but that He will help me to stand.  I pray that this little article will serve as a very real and lasting blessing and encouragement to all those who will read it, and I pray also that it will serve notice on the devil and his crowd that Mickey Quinn is not out of the fight yet.
